Seven Years, Four Trips, Two 'Chips.

bobbyjoseph

Bobby and I have known each other for a good seven years now.  Prior to being the captain for Team Dunk, I was a part a Team Generation, twice (winning the ‘chip with them in the first season).  With that said, I can honestly say that Bobby Joseph has one of the worst looking jump shots the game of basketball has ever witnessed.  Any team guarding Bobby, one strategy comes to mind leave him open!  If the NRF was a track league Bobby would be first team (hands down).  On the flipside he’s seen as a grandfather figure to most.  Being one of the oldest dudes in the league, he is also one of the most fit.  Credit to you Bobby.  Just, work on the jump shot (at least the form).  Maybe teammate Joe Branch could help you on that one!

Anyway, Bobby and I had a moment to ...

Week 11

- Team Delta Force V. Team Dunk

Week 11 Game Recap: Delta Force V. Dunk

Write-ups can fun sometimes, and other times not.  Filling in for this years AP Loochan Dixon asked me to cover my own game for him.  Things were a little odd as I entered the gym around 915ish.  The game prior to ours (Delta vs Dunk) was cancelled.  Kash kindly asked me if we can go early, which I was down with.  As all of us win or lose wanted to get home to see what Melo did in his 1st game for the Knicks.  With thoughts of Melo and Deron Williams on everyone’s mind, the game had to start somehow.  No teams were warm and no lay-up lines were even happening.  With little on the line other then pride,(Delta had wrapped up the 1 seed earlier that evening by default)  Dunk and Delta both still wanted to play hard and send a message.

The 1st half seemed to ...

Thoughts from Above

halo

20% of the season is officially in the books.  Things have changed, but most have remained constant.  After a long 1st blog posting to start off with, I will keep this one short and sweet.  I still hope to have the internet goin nutz still…

Uptempo/Hurrache- Are Legit

Eric Ray Ray- Is back back to beast mode (Congrats homey).

New Impact Guys- Harold, Jarek, Ryan Fish are looking good on their new squads.

Sleeper New Guys- Jeff Chen and Bernard Bowen (Bernard lit us up) watch out.

Can Dame? Mesh his guys together with Mike Won, or will he go trade happy soon.

Looooosh Dix- Has shot the ball less so far, while concentrating on his journalism skills.

What team will have the freshest ID’s vs the Wackest.  Bet Tony Chans are sorta crazy.  Thank god Corbin isn’t on Terms…

What will Do do without Justin Monroe ...

Google it, Text Someone or Do Your Homework!

Google it

This being my 2nd year as a captain in the prized NRF, some things have changed and some have not.  Sitting in the basement of the very exclusive Bowery Stadium, during draft night some thoughts wandered into my head.  What does remain constant is that the team everyone is gunning for always seems to have the best draft.  Why is that, everyone knows they only need 1 or 2 guys to make a solid run back to MSG.

This is a shout to other captains: Google a player, text someone, or do your homework!  I know a lot of us draft our friends i.e. Darius, Jomo and myself Ryan K.  There comes a time when friends will have to go, and more strategical drafting will need to be done.  So the better teams, just don’t continue to get better.  How Jarek (who a lot of the captains did ...

Week 24

- Team Hyperflight V. Team Dunk

Week 24 Recap: Hyperflight vs. Dunk

With the playoffs just around the corner, with a super hot gym and a dragged out NRF season, Dunk and Hyperflight were warm from the minute they walked into that piece (the gym). The first game was cancelled. So from 7:20 to 8:00, both teams were warm (or in need of Panama Jack Aloe Vera after tanning lotion). Also, both teams barely had five guys nearing the tip-off.

In the first half, the game was neck and neck, and this is usually how it is when these two squads battle each other. Maybe Hyperflight was trying to win one for the old three-point contest vet Lou Miguel. Who will Bobbito Garcia face next year in the finals? Everyone comes out for that battle. One thing I do know, Rafael DaSilva was gunning for a W tonight. Raf went for a quiet 30 points, 3 assists, 3 steals, 6 ...

Halo's Final Thoughts On The Season

Halo

As this NRF season feels like it has dragged on longer than a Douglas/Lincoln debate, some good things have transpired. Teams are starting to gel, new friendships are being made and lots of trades are going down. Teams more than ever are trying to compete with the elite (Uptempo and Hurrache). Once again, these are just my thoughts and assessments (all biz never personal) as I attempt to break down each team going into the playoff stretch.

Uptown Conference

Huarache
- Not much to say here. LeKeith knows what he’s doing. They are very big and very, very good.
- Will D. Broadwater (which sounds like Diddy’s golf caddy) ever not make a comment regarding any matter?
- Can anyone get past the Cookie Monster?

Generation
- How long until Joe and Dan butt heads?
- Will Dan make the 1 or 2 playoff games they need him for?
- Is Bobby J ...

Halo's Thoughts

Halo

Lot's of things have changed in this seasons version of the NRF. Beards have gotten longer, sneakers have gotten wackier, and polo bags and cardigans have taken over off the court. On the flipside lots have remained: Teams are still gunnin' to knock off T. Chin and Team Uptempo.

I will attempt to breakdown each team in a question style (with no answers as of yet).

Team Terminator
Did Tony Chan take the steal of the draft in Omar?
Are the Terms better with Tony on the bench, thinking of his master Chan?
Can Al continue to have an all-stareque season?  Maybe most improved?
Will they beat a team who has their top players?
Is Scott Hurwitz's beard sculpting game the best in the league?

Team Delta Force
How long can they play the same style of ball?
Does Gabe deserve more burn?
Can Jose get in a ...

Week 11

- Team Terminator V. Team Foamposite

Week 11 Recap: Terminator vs. Foamposite

Terminator vs. Foamposite
Still trying to find their team identity, Foamposite was up for the challenge against Terminator. Terminator was playing without NRF scoring beast Brendan “Teddy Dupay” Callahan, and if Cal were in the building, Terms most likely would have gotten the W. But that is the nature of the NRF – you play with who you got and who shows up week to week.

Up until game time, Foam was not sure Ron “Rec Specs” Jackson would be suited either to run. He has been battling an eye injury, yet he showed up rockin’ the first pair of Rec Specs (sport goggles) the NRF has seen in five years. He looked like a version of Ben Wallace wearing swimming goggles who was about to do a toothpick dive off the diving board for the first time at the pool. You know, the kinda jump where you hold your nose also. Which to ... READ MORE >
