With Christmas break putting a halt to the NRF season for two weeks, Huarache had some time to get over that devastating 50-48 loss to Uptempo in week 4. With an underachieving 1-2 record, Huarache came into 2010 with a new mind set. Right from the tipoff in their game last night against Foamposite, Huarache brought their A-game. Behind LeKeith Taylor and Darius Broadwater (who banked in a free-throw), Huarache jumped out to a 19-7 lead with 5 minutes to go in the half. Foamposite made a little bit of a comeback and closed the gap to 8, but Huarache recovered and led 31-16 at the break.
After halftime, Huarache didn't let down on their beating as they went on an 8-0 run early in the second half. With 13 minutes to go, Huarache had doubled up Foamposite's score 40-20. Although Foamposite was not able to get closer than 15 after that point, a couple of their players started to play well. Foamposite's GM, Do Kim had a couple of nice dishes and was getting to the rack with ease. His teammate, Jamaal Lesane had hands down the play of the game. Late in the second half, Lesane drove from the left side of the wing, hop-stepped between defenders before going up and under the basket for a reverse layup. As nice as that play was, it wasn't good enough as Huarache was just too tough down the stretch. On top of Taylor, Will Perkins and Eric Raymundo got it going in the second half. Perkins swished in two threes off the left wing. Huarache defeated Foamposite 57-40.
Huarache had a well balanced team effort as they had four players score in double figures. Taylor led the way with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, while Perkins chipped in 10 points and 7 boards. Ron Jackson had a nice game for Foamposite with 8 points and 10 rebounds. This loss drops Foamposite's record to a New Jersey Nets-esque 0-4.
