Week 8 Recap: Dunk vs. Delta Force

Dunk 53, Delta Force 48

Both Dunk (2-4) and Delta Force (1-4) came into Week 8 needing wins like Greg Oden needs a break. The game started off as a dogfight, and stayed that way for 40 straight minutes plus a four minute overtime.

While the game was close for most the first 10 minutes, Delta Force started to pull away late in the half behind the combined play of David Jacoby and Gabriel Urist. BTW, is it just me or do they look like twins? Both were sporting newly shaved domes and if they weren't wearing numbered jerseys, there's no way I could tell them apart. Anyway, Delta Force led 22-15 at the break.

In the second half, Dunk started to come alive. Playing without Bobbito Garcia, they got a huge contribution by Dan Solomito, who was spectacular in the second half scoring 14 of his 17 points. Solomito showing the entire skill set as he was crossing people over, dropping dimes as well as cleaning up the glass. Dan was not the only one making plays for Dunk. Ryan Kearney hit a three to cut Delta Force's lead to 2 points (31-28). Speaking of Kearney and speaking of twins, what about Kearney and teammate Steve Halo looking like clones (especially when they sat on the bench beside each other) with their shaggy hair and scruffy beards? From a distance they looked like Joe Pesci in the movie "With Honors."

Delta Force was able to pull away a little bit and it looked like they had this game in the bag when they extended the lead to 12 points with just minutes to go. But a late game meltdown and crucial turnovers by Delta Force sparked a spirited comeback by Dunk. Thomas Harden of Dunk's layup with 3 seconds to go, capped a 10-0 Dunk run and tied the game at 46-46 at the end of regulation.

In OT, Solomito took over. His beautiful shake and bake move that led to a layup with 30 seconds to go, proved to be the dagger as Dunk stole this one 51-47. Solomito finished with 17 points and 15 boards and Will Dubose chipped in with 11 points ad 8 rebounds for Dunk. Kelvin Coffee led the way for Delta Force with 11 points.
