This week’s POW was a close three-man race. Two rookies and one vet (not to be confused with two girls, one…never mind) truly balled outta control this week and, if nothing else, locked up unquestionable all-star selections. The NRF’s biggest surprise of the season has been AF1 rookie guard Ryan Fisher. The team struggled a bit but is back at .500 and Fisher’s consistent play has been the catalyst of their recent success, as he dropped 20 points, five boards and five steals on Wednesday. Eric Raymundo might be a calm, mellow, character who hands out checks, takes verbal abuse from Ka$h-money, and eats Chinese food with the rest of us on the sidelines but he’s efficiently-flashy (sorta like the Ru-fi-ooooo character from Steven Speilberg’s 1991 classic Hook, who he happens to favor) once he touches the hardwood (I’m not saying pause). 20 point outings come on the reg for Raymundo, and his defensive skills and ability to drop dimes are apparent. He was fearless against Team Shox, scoring 22 points (15 in the first half and five total 3-pointers on the night) and grabbing five rebounds. But the importance of winning that game couldn’t have been stressed enough, and the player that sent his team over the edge and the crowd into a frenzy was Shox rookie, Chad Easterling. His 27 point, 10 rebound performance was filled with an array of dunks, drives, and other athletic plays that no one else in the NRF can make. Easterling came out of his shell and showed the league why he was the no.1 pick in the draft and why I couldn’t deny him Player of the Week honors.
