Dunk 38, Huarache 57

In the first matchup since the Thanksgiving break, both teams came out shaking off the itis from those leftover turkey “samiches”.  Dunk did manage to take a five point lead by taking advantage of Huarache’s missed opportunities at the rim. Terance Takyi hit a zone busting three and issued a challenge to Team Dunk to “come out of that zone,” as he gave Huarache their first lead of the game (15-14) with 8:08 left in the first half. With his team down two, Raf Da Silva drew a foul on a three-point shot but only converted on two free throws, tying the game at 22. Huarache’s half court press caused two consecutive turnovers, ending in points from the line for Huarache and a 24-22 lead going into the half.

Team Huarache opened up the lead behind Takyi’s early second half surge. With his rust gone, Takyi must have ate a fire flower from Super Mario Bros., scoring nine of his 16 points (three layups and a tre-bomb) in the first 1:30 of the half. A Billy Dodson three pointer (17 points) capped a 12-0 run, which was finally answered by a three from Ryan Kearney. Team Huarache outscored Team Dunk 23-3 in the second half. The run ended with a mid-range jumper from Harold Reid (10 points). Teammate Edowa Shimizu added 10 points in the losing effort. In addition to 16 points, Takyi also had 10 steals and four assists.
