Foamposite 27, Huarache 51

The theme of the night for most of the games in week eight was proving a point. Some teams needed to prove they could win and others that they’re still dangerous. Both team Huarache and the Foamies wanted nothing more than a W, and the action was intense from the opening seconds of the game. Roscoe (six points, six rebounds, three steals) acted as the X-factor (is there an X-factor award at the end of the season? Dude gets my vote) disrupting nearly every pass that came his way with a deflection or a steal, which helped put the black attack (I just made that up) ahead 11-4, five minutes into the half. Terance “Great First Name” Takyi got it going, knocking down a three and throwing an outlet pass to LeKeith Taylor for the easy two and the 18-5 lead with eight minutes to play.

Foamie front-man, Keith Howard (five points) struggled to find his shot against Huarache’s well known defense. But to the contrast, Huarache’s Billy Dodson (14 points, four rebounds) was en fuego in the first half, knocking down two from the outside and helping the Men In Black to a 26-9 halftime lead. Takyi (18 points, four rebounds, four assists) opened up the second half with ill cross court pass to Eric “Coach on the Floor” Newman for the deuce. While everyone on Huarache seemed, Foamposite couldn’t hit a shot and couldn’t take care of the ball. Chris Dowling (nine points, six rebounds) tried to rally his team with second half efforts but it just wasn’t in the cards. A dunk from Taylor at the 5:31 mark put a stamp on the game, as Huarache cruised to a 51-23 victory.

“We really use each game as a way to get better,” Taylor said. “We’ve been on a long break and we’re trying to get out chemistry back and get ready for the playoffs. When we look at it like that, every game counts.”
