This is the matchup that we've all been waiting for. Frankly, it makes Shox v. Generation seem like a bit of an undercard. All year long, these two have been duking it out at the top of the Power Rankings, jockeying for No. 1. Uptempo held it down for far longer than anyone else, but AF1 was the team to dethrone them during the first half of the season. That was a 53-52 win in Week 6 thanks to some sharpshooting from AF1's big three, Paul Rivera, Brandon Smith and Eric Raymundo, who combined for 43 points. Mike Won's awesome 22-point, 10-rebound game was overshadowed in the loss.
And Uptempo is yet to get their revenge. Both teams were considerably short-handed during their second meeting, which went to AF1 54-41. Stalley had a big 18-point outing, which is no different from the excellent output that we've seen from him recently. He's been one of the most dangerous guys in all of NRF in the last month or so. But AF1's Brandon Smith went for 19 points, and everyone on the squad got on the scoreboard, and they came away on top.
They say it's really tough to beat a team three straight times. Even though Vegas has Uptempo favored headed into this one (-2.5), AF1 will be the team going for the clean sweep.
Key Matchup:
Scott Williams vs. Brandon Smith
Smith was a complete animal last week, raining down 27 points on beyond-NBA range three's. It felt like Williams didn't miss any three's in the Uptempo/Dunk battle either. But the key for both of these guys will be to get theirs within the flow of the game. When they look to score over making the right play, then things start to break down offensively for both clubs. With everything on the line tonight, do they try to play hero? Or will they play smart ball, and simply make the opposition pay with the usual sharpshooting?
