Week 21 Recap: Foamposite vs. Delta Force

Foamposite vs. Delta Force

Foamposite 64, Delta Force 39

The biggest story line headed into this one was how Foamposite would fare without their most dynamic transition scorer, Keith Howard. Delta Force took that as a cue to be aggressive right from the jump. Smiley led the attack, having no qualms about pulling up from deep or going to the rack.

As usual, we saw glimpses of great play from Delta. They posted up Sammie Taylor in the early going against one of Foam's smaller guards. Easy bucket. But Delta didn't go back to that matchup again. Taylor is one of the strongest guards in NRF. Even if he isn't the quickest guy on the floor, he creates a lot of mismatches. Next season, Delta will be need to feature Sammie in those mismatches.

Foam looked as if they didn't miss Howard whatsoever. Mike Tumbarello benefited from some great ball movement on a number of occasions. He extended Foamposite's lead into double-digits when he splashed a three from the top of the key. After a couple of easy transition buckets, Foam went up 26-11.

But Taylor hit three's on back-to-back possessions (interrupted by a Steve Halo trey-ball), which cute the lead to 30-21. That's when you have to watch out for Foam. The moment that you think you built a little bit of momentum, they come right back and answer. Right after Taylor's second trey, Evan Waterman snuck under the glass and hit a Ginobili-esque and-1 spinner off the glass.

This game was 41-26 at the half, and Foam's lead was never in jeopardy during the 2nd. Foam wasn't looking to one player or another, they were simply letting the game come to them. If they do that and don't press in the playoffs, they could be really dangerous.
