Week 4 Recap: Foamposite vs. Huarache

Foamposite vs. Huarache

Foamposite 34, Huarache 54

Welcome back Mike Tumbarello. In the first game of the night, a beleaguered Huarache team with only six active guys took on a Foamposite squad in search of their second win in a row. From the tip, you could tell that things just weren’t going Huarache’s way.

Running a 1-2-2 zone to pester Pat Cassidy and his three-point arsenal, Foamposite looked to capitalize on Huarache’s lack of depth and ball-handling skills around the perimeter. Perhaps it was the absence of their coach Andrew Simon or S.W.A.T. team member LeKeith Taylor, but Huarache appeared visibly disjointed after a few traveling calls and a Keith Howard (13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists) block on Christian Grant-Fields early on.

At the 8:00 minute mark, Foamposite had built a 17-5 lead behind stellar play from Tumbarello (12 points, 7 rebounds) and crafty southpaw Chris Petrie, as the two proceeded to knock down buckets. Whether it was the defensive pressure or the lack of offensive efficiency, at times Huarache looked lost on the floor.

One bright spot for Huarache came before halftime on a Grant-Fields (13 points, 11 rebounds) to Will Perkins bucket, as the astute 1-2 combo connected off an inbounds play. But pouring salt right back in the wound, Tumbarello scored an and-one and another basket before halftime to make it 27-11 at the break.

After a fan screamed from the stands, “Hey Pat! I didn’t pay money to see you pass the ball,” Cassidy looked for his shot more in the second half, but it was too late. At that point, fan favorite Steve Halo a.k.a. Tony Token was busy filling up the stat sheet, and Tumbarello (the team’s leading scorer the past three years), was getting it done from all angles.

Without Taylor, Huarache’s interior defense was lacking, increasing Foamposite’s ability to get to the basket – even without star point guard Do Kim. In the end, a combination of the 1-2-2 and a poor shooting night was too much to overcome as Foamposite just simply outplayed Huarache.

Final score: Foamposite wins, 54-34.
