Although Delta Force is not currently on the path back to MSG, Kelvin Coffey is doing everything he can to change that. As the reigning NRF MVP, Coffey has some interesting words to all the haters out there. Take a few minutes to learn a little bit more about Coffey…
Name: Kelvin Coffey
Team: Delta Force
Industry: Fashion
Job title: Fashion Editor for XXL Magazine
What do you do for your job? I’m in charge of the fashion that’s in the magazine. I come up with the concepts for fashion stories and choose the models that I want to be in the fashion as well as the clothing companies, depending on if it’s hot or not. It’s really too much shit to explain, so I will leave it with that.
Age: 20 something
Hometown: Aurora, North Carolina
Height: 6-1
Weight: 175
Shoe size: 13
Position: Guard
My Home Court: Anywhere I’m at
Playing Experience: Junior high, high school, college and now NRF
Favorite Sneakers: Black/Gray Air Jordan Vs
Favorite Player: I’m from North Carolina, so of course MJ
Favorite Team: My favorite team ever is the Chicago Bulls of the ’90s. I still don’t think a team in the League right now can beat them.
Go-to-Move: I drive in on ’em or take the mid-range J. Knowhatimean?!
I play: To the best of my ability. As far as offense is concerned, I let the game come to me without forcing it. And on the defensive side of things, I make sure I make it hard for my opponent. I mean, it’s no secret on how I got MVP last season, although there were some heads that think I didn’t deserve it. But those same heads were the same ones that didn’t have an answer to stop me when we played them.
Coming up I admired: My entire family and all my brothers. They all played basketball and at 6-foot-1, I’m the shortest out of all of them and I’m speaking of seven guys.
My basketball moment: I remember telling my uncle (who played for the University of Minnesota) that I got his back and will get his revenge when I get older after they had lost a game in the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament to Georgia Tech. Last season, I brought my son to one of the NRF games and we lost and the exact same way I told my uncle, my son told me the exact same thing, the exact same way, with his hand on my head. It was déjà vu. That was a crazy basketball moment for me.
