Week 10 Recap: Air Force 1 vs. Hyperflight

Air Force 1 vs. Hyperflight

Air Force 1 73, Hyperflight 47

After a tough loss to Foamposite last week, you knew Air Force 1 was going to bring the pain. Still without their floor general Paul Rivera, Air Force 1 knew exactly what they needed to do and got down to business.

Early on, Hyperflight was getting in the paint but bricking everything they put up. On the opposite end, Air Force 1 was getting in the lane, but as Eric Raymundo (26 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals) learned via Niko Klansek, not every shot you’re going to put up is going to go. After whapping it in the lane, Dirk put in an early nomination Block of the Week.

But while the offense normally runs through Klansek, Jose Carlson (21 points) and Lou Miguel, Derrin Woodhouse (13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block) could be one of Hyperflight’s best players. At one point, he hit a three, then next possession down got three points the old fashioned way with a lefty lay-up. Not wanting to be outdone (and to redeem himself from the early block) Raymundo hit a three of his own and then a deep to answer.

At that point, things got a little crazy. With a 20-12 lead in Air Force 1’s favor, Dirk got T’d up and then tossed after yelling at the ref asking for an over the back call. While in hindsight the ejection may have been a little over the top, the arguing had to stop. Closing out the first half, Brandon Smith (who’s shot from the outside wasn’t falling like we’ve become accustomed to) took it hard to the rack and drew the and-one, putting Air Force 1 on top 41-27.

In the second half, Raymundo, Chris Dowling (16 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists) and Air Force 1 continued their onslaught, coming out the gates with a three ball to go up 50-32. Carlson, trying to stop the momentum, cut the lead to 54-42 with some aggressive moves to the basket, but it was too little, too late. After Tony Forte ripped Hyperflight two times in a row in the backcourt for two lay-ups, the game was out of reach.

Final score: Air Force 1 wins, 73-47.
