Week 9 Recap: Hyperflight vs. Generation

Hyperflight vs. Generation

Hyperflight 57, Generation 71

After last week’s beat down on Foamposite, you could see from the jump that Generation was firing on all cylinders. Joe Branch (20 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 blocks) was looking like the Joe Branch of old, and the team was running the floor with a purpose. On the other side of things, all I could think about was that Hyperflight needs to make a trade. Not that I know “who to where for what or when,” but I do know that even with a talented group of guys, things aren’t translating into Ws.

Generation quickly jumped out to a 20-10 lead, but before you knew it, Hyperflight was on their tail closing the gap. The best term I can come up with for what I saw is Hyper-Scrap – a state of mind where they just go out there and get it done. A combination of Jose Carlson (11 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals), Lou Miguel (11 points, 4 rebounds) and Derrin Woodhouse, sprinkled in with a little Niko Klansek (16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists), Bobby Jones (10 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals), Andy Furgeson and Mark Lehman equals a good dosage of Hyper-Scrap.

But no matter how much Hyper-Scrap you have, Branch, J.J. McGowan (16 points) and Dan Cherry are physical specimens, and in the NRF very hard to guard. Also, with Rafael Dasilva (14 points, 4 steals, 4 assists) coming into his own, Generation’s arsenal was too much for Hyperflight to handle.

After a generous lead at halftime, Generation didn’t slow down the pace. Starting Sabai Burnett in the second half after valuable contribution in the first, Burnett (11 points, 5 rebounds) was a beast on both ends of the floor.

But with under five minutes left to play, a Miguel trifecta cut the lead to ten, 55-45, and Hyperflight looked primed for a comeback. A few minutes later, a triple from Klansek cut the lead to seven and Hyperflight had hope. Unfortunately, it appeared there was no way Generation was going to blow this game, no matter how hard they tried.

Final score: Generation wins, 71-57.

It is going to be such a dfuciiflt call. I think we all know what I would like to win but the fact that 127 Hours, Inception and The King’s Speech all feature prominently is going to make this a very interesting year.
