Foamposite 45, Hyperflight 64
As I said in the preview, you knew this one was going to be interesting depending how the two teams came out. Looks like Hyperflight wasn’t really too worried about the draft, as they came out with guns blazing.
Playing a completely different type of game when they have
Ricardo Viramontes on the floor, he’s definitely an key component that was missing most of the year. But after 10 minutes, it appeared it was going to come down to the end, as the score was 21-19 in favor of Foamposite.
It’s safe to say that whenever you’re talking about the quickest players in the NRF, you have to include
Bobby Jones. This guy is the “The Glide” out there, with one of the smoothest handles and first steps in the league. Partner him with
Niko Klansek (who’s continued to live on another planet the second half of the season), and you wonder what went wrong at the beginning of the year.
But enough about Hyperflight for a minute. Let’s talk about Foamposite. With a gritty team of scrappy players, this squad could very well be the Orlando Magic of the NRF. I’ll say it now. I would not be surprised if they mage it to the Conference Finals. After I just made this comparison, someone in the stands just compared
Steve Halo to
Dwight Howard. Crazy.
With five minutes left in the first half, the score was tied 26-26, as both teams decided that defense was going to win them the game. But after Klansek stretched the D and hit another three, and
Lou Miguel left
Ron Jackson at half court with a nice crossover, Hyperflight went into the break up 31-30.
The second half was a different story. Clearly not looking toward the lottery, Hyperflight was looking for a victory.
Jose Carlson came out and stole the ball from
Do Kim at half court and converted. The next play, which I think people are still confused about, Miguel and Kim got into it and both players were ejected from the game.
But at the 10-minute mark, Hyperflight rallied without their veteran leader and ran away with up, leading up until a 52-36 lead. For whatever the reason, Foamposite was just out of sync. Perhaps it was the ejection, or the fact that they had too many guys in the rotation, but Foamposite couldn’t find any consistency in the second half.
Final score: Hyperflight wins, 64-45
