- Team Foamposite V. Team Dunk

Week 2 Recap: Foamposite vs. Dunk

Foamposite 50, Dunk 63

As I wrote in the game preview, the great thing about two winless teams playing each other is that somebody has to win. And from the jump Foamposite and Dunk were at each other's throats. Before the game, you could see it in the eyes of Dan Cherry (who was shooting around looking like Tyrone Biggums in his red cap sans the constant scratching) that going down 0-2 was not an option. But then again he had never met Dan Solomito on the court.

Right away both teams were hitting hard. After missing Week 1, Solomito (rocking some canvas Vandals) was showing onlookers why he was the No. 3 pick in the draft. But slippery Keith Howard - who I'd like to give the nickname Too Hard To Guard - was showing everyone that he'd like to make the jump from Most Improved Player to NRF All-First Team. Helping Howard soften the Solomito attack was a bearded Mike Tumbarello (incognito) and Cherry knocking down bombs from beyond the arc.

But in case you weren't there, Dan Solomito was a fucking beast! Stretching the defense and putting on a show in his debut, he was making Steve Halo look like GM of the Year in his first year. But regardless of Foamposite's inability to stop the train from coming through, they took a 29-28 lead off an and-one from Howard close to the end of the first half.

In the second half, nothing changed. Dunk was able to stretch it to a 43-39 lead with 16 minutes left, despite Cherry continuing to knock down triples. Also huge for Foam was Jamaal Lesane, who came off the bench and was dropping dimes like people in front of Macy's during the holidays.

With 10 minutes left, Dunk's lead dropped to 48-47, and things were getting sloppy. Halo, who was affectionately being called Jackie Moon from the stands, was racking up assists by feeding the rock to his team's lynchpin, while the front-runner for Rookie of the Year was pulling from the parking lot. Soon the score was 55-47.

But Howard, Cherry and captain Do Kim refused to lose. Too bad Dunk was just not gonna let that happen. Despite some sloppy play to end the game, the team was able to play hot potato to round out the W. To sum it up, with about two minutes left, Halo was already wearing his warmup tee (a white tee with the word "sad" on it) and a white beenie before checking in at the last minute to give his star Solomito a curtain call as he exited the game.

But Halo, there's nothing to be sad about a 65-52 victory, and your top pick dropping 38 points and 12 boards.
