Week 13

- Team Foamposite V. Team Terminator

Week 13 Recap: Foamposite vs. Terminator

Foamposite 55, Terminator 49

As I wrote in the preview, this game was going to come down to coaching. And that's exactly what happened. Both teams only had six players available, so time management and player management was key. And without superstar rookie point guard Omar Grant, it was going to be interesting to see how Terminator played without him.

Early on, veteran Dan Gladstone decided it was his time to be the leader. Hitting a three early, Gladstone knew that the offense would have to run through him. But early on, the offense wasn't running much at all. Without Grant, the score was 6-5 (in favor of Foamposite) after five minutes, and their offense was stagnant. After 12 minutes, Foamposite pushed the lead to 9-6, but both teams seemed out of whack.

Enter Brian Bachelor. It took 13 weeks for the rookie to find his groove in this league, and it couldn't have come at a bigger time. Playing his best ball of the season, Bachelor was running the offense like a pro. And scoring like one too. The big thing for this Terminator squad was their spacing, and with Bachelor directing the offense, they finally got it right.

But Terminator didn't give up. In the second half, they were trapping in the halfcourt, and Gladstone was knocking 'em down from three. But pulling his best, "Anything you can do, I can do better" impression was Mike Tumbarello. He knocked in a three to cut the lead down to 30-29 at the 15-minute mark, and then hit another one to give them a 32-30 lead. Between Bachelor and Tumbarello, it turned into a three-point shooting clinic. Even Do Kim joined in, knocking one down to make it 40-39 in Foamposite's favor. But neither team could close it out, and we headed to overtime.

In the extra period, Foamposite just wanted it more. Although Terminator scored first, a costly turnover by Gladstone followed by a big three from Tumbarello gave Foamposite the 49-48 lead. And although Gladstone got to the line, he couldn't convert. After making the first, he missed the second. Even though a lane violation on Bachelor gave himself a shot at redemption, he missed again. With 20 second left, a huge defensive stand from Al Reyes send this game to double-overtime.

To close out the game, Foamposite went back to the man that brought them there: Bachelor. With the game-winning bucket, Bachelor had a nice little crossover and jumper that was too much for Terminator to makeup.

Final score: Foamposite wins, 54-49.
