Week 13

- Team Shox V. Team Huarache

Week 13 Recap: Shox vs. Huarache

Shox 53, Huarache 74

One of the things that sets Huarache apart from the rest of the NRF is that they only play man-to-man defense. Doesn't matter what the matchups are, who they're playing, etc. They know that they will win games by digging in on that end of the floor. So before playing Shox, Huarache GM LeKeith Taylor knew exactly what they were going to do against the his MVP counterpart from the NRF All-Star Game: They were going to play a box-and-one.

If you were to take a picture of these two teams before the jump-ball, you might have seen Terance Takyi in Pat Cassidy's shorts. (PAUSE) Because that's what Takyi does; he plays defense. Second in the NRF with 3.3 steals per game, Takyi is hands down the frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year. Something that is no small feat considering this is his first year in the League. But in addition to shadowing the White Shadow, the following sequence illustrates just how dangerous he is: After making the layup, Takyi steal the inbounds pass, scores with the left hand while hanging in the air and gets fouled (making the free throw). A couple minutes later, he did the same thing.

What began as a 10-9 Shox lead at the 13-minute mark in the first half, quickly became a blow out. Taylor was active early and clearly had a bounce in his step. But even after back-to-back threes from Stalley in his return, Takyi hit back-to-back triples of his own along with his teammate Billy Dodson. By halftime, the score was 47-24 in favor of Huarache.

In the second half, Shox tried to make a comeback. Cassidy broke free and hit one, while Christian Grant-Fields was doing everything he could to get something going towards the basket. But the rookie combination of Takyi and Dodson was too much. These two were putting on a clinic on both ends of the floor. This team shows no mercy for 94 feet (or the 75 or so feet at Seward Park). To top it all off, Dodson threw Taylor an alley oop to make it 71-47. Game over.

Final score: Huarache wins, 71-53.

That back court is nasty. That Box and 1 is even nastier. Yet another Hurache win by double digits.

To TT case, he def puts more work in than just steals. He def shuts people down and take them out their game.

IDK, he may have, not saying TT is trash, or he doesn't get steals or even that he's a bad defender BUT defensive player of the year may be a little over the top. If I may I'll throw my bid in too; I've held last years MVP to 9pts & 5reb (dolo), 37 pt golden boy to 13pts & 5rebs (dolo) no box and 1's, no zones nothing, all while playing them out of position (them 6'5"+ vs me 6'1") as a matter of fact there's only one player to score over 13 points on me and that dude had 41 on someone else a couple games ago... but I would even say that there are 2 guys on Huarache that are bigger defensive threats. No hate, no shots, I'm just saying... Either way I'm looking forward to giving Huarache a couple L's before the end of the July. I got my new game face on, we're winning out the rest of the year.

@Tkyn, I don't see you boys winning out the rest of the season. Ya'll are good but I don't see the chemistry and cohesion to win out.
