Week 14

- Team Huarache V. Team Dunk

Week 14 Recap: Huarache vs. Dunk

Huarache 51, Dunk 45

After Dunk's well-documented scoring troubles, GM Steve Halo came up to me before the game and said that he told his players if anyone scored more than 10 points in the game, he'd buy them Popeyes. And apparently Bang Takenouchi was hungry, as he started the game on a 5-0 run. Between him and Thomas Harden, it looked like Dunk's funk may have been over. Playing without star rookie Billy Dodson, Huarache was shorthanded, and they appeared to be stagnant on offense. Was this their chance to capitalize? Was Huarache going to let this happen.

Well, not so much. After tying the game 13-13 at the 10-minute mark, Huarache seemed to be just meticulously picking apart Dunk's zone, taking their time as they worked the ball around for the best shot available. While this slow-it-down style led to a halftime score of 22-19 in their favor, it almost put the fans to sleep.

But in the second half, Dodson's absence made GM LeKeith Taylor decide to give himself the green light. Calling his own number, drives to the basket along with raining jumpers were coming from all over the place. Moving the ball inside-and-out, making sure to include Darius Broadwater, Roscoe and Chris Griggs, Taylor and Terance Takyi were in full attack mode. Not dead yet, Ryan Kearney was doing everything he could - including knocking down a deep three - to keep Dunk in it.

In the end, it was too late. In grind mode since the very beginning, Huarache knew this one wasn't going to be pretty. Hell, even Taylor played the second half after dislocating his finger. But a win is a win, and that's what they got.

Final score: Huarache wins, 52-45.
