Hyperflight 69, Air Force 1 61
If there was ever a game that Hyperflight had to win, this would be it. After their victory last week, they were trying to string together consecutive W's for the first time since Week 1 & 2. And it couldn't hurt that Air Force 1 had only five players either. Without all of their bigs, Air Force 1 started the game with Lucian Dickson, Cory Hogan, Kevin Wildes, Brandon Smith and Ben Detrick. And on top of that, Smith was coming off wisdom teeth surgery the day before.
Anyways, despite Air Force 1 playing without a bench, they were able to keep the game close throughout. Playing a 2-3 zone that packed it in, Hyperflight made an effort to attack the seams. And it worked. Getting the start, iZ Mateo hit his first shot and the confidence level bar was set high. With Wildes running point, the defensive strategy for Hyperflight was simple: locate Smith on the floor at all times, and don't allow him to get off a shot. Easier said than done.
Anyone seen the movie Rookie of the Year? That was how Smith was playing. Threes with guys in his face, runners in the lane and even one from the parking lot, this kid was possessed. But Hyperflight's team game was too much for Air Force 1 to handle - especially without their bigs. Jeremy Siler continued his impressive play of late, as he had a huge game down low. Also, after returning from injury, Niko Klansek is finally starting to find his groove. Add in a couple trey bombs for Lou Miguel, some jumpers for Jay Corbin and tremendous hustle and heart from Chad Gittens, and Hyperflight was firing on all cylinders.
