Foamposite 57, Huarache 63
Before this game even started, we knew that someone's win streak was going to come to an end. While Foamposite hadn't lost since the All-Star Break, Huarache hadn't lost since Week 4. This was a battle from the jump, and one between Foamposite's hustle and Huarache's strength. That meeting could have taken place in Sparta.
But you had to know from the beginning that Foamposite wasn't scared. Why? Because Mike Tumbarello came out rockin' the Don Draper. But despite his confidence, he was going up against the frontrunner for GM of the Year. And while we all know about the skills of Terance Takyi and Billy Dodson, the sleeper from this year's Draft class is Roscoe, whom I've dubbed Mr. Everything. Whether it's a steal, rebounds, block, pick or bucket, Roscoe's going to get it for you. Perhaps it's because if he turns to the side you can't even see him, but this kid can play.
And early on, his play pushed Huarache out to a 16-7 lead. But you gotta hand it to Foamposite, because they never gave up. With a severe height disadvantage, Foamposite had to go into attack mode. Do Kim was taking it to the rack, Brian Bachelor was ducking and weaving, and even Brian Saul was doin' work. On one play, Saul grabbed a rebound, dribbled it to halfcourt, and came back through the lane with a swooping layup.
By halftime though, Huarache's lead was 34-19. And the reason why I think they're going to win it all this year is because of their defense. On one play, Takyi was simply in the backcourt, not even applying pressure on Foamposite as they were inbounding the ball. But with three Foamposite players in the backcourt, they threw it away. Also, now that the weather is nice, it appears LeKeith Taylor has decided to hold some block parties, with the inaugural one of the season being last night.
But Foamposite never quit. In the second half, these guys were able to string together a nice little run behind Bachelor and Tumbarello (who had a huge block) and cut the lead down to 59-49 with four minutes to play. Then Bachelor hit a three to make it 59-52, and Tumbarello made a layup to make it 59-54 with 1:30 left to play. Could they play Cinderella? It was too late. Despite a late three from Bachelor to bring it to 61-57 with 13.2 seconds left, it was too late.
Final score: Huarache wins, 63-57.
