Dunk 19, Huarache 81
This whole game can be summed up in three words that were said before the tip from someone in the crowd: "I smell blowout."
Starting in full court D, Huarache knows that defense wins championships and wanted to get in a good workout. So they did. On the first possession, Rafael DaSilva tried to take it to the hoop on LeKeith Taylor and he had no part of that, swatting his shit out of play. That kind of set the tone. Before you knew it, Huarache had jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first couple minutes. Then 13-0 after five. Then 19-0 after nine. It wasn't until DaSilva finally made a three around the 10-minute mark that Dunk got on the board.
Every time someone came in the gym, they asked the same question: "Yo, is something up with the scoreboard." Nope. You read it right. Billy Dodson was raining murder from beyond the arc, and Terance Takyi was picking pockets so bad he could have been arrested for theft. With no mercy and a full court press, Huarache was pouring it on.
"Our team can't even run straight," said Steve Halo during the game. At halftime, the score was 45-7.
In the second half, things didn't get any better. When I asked Takyi (whose nickname is the Cookie Monster) why he felt the need to pour it on, he said that this was still retribution for not making the All-Star Game. When the score got to 50-9 with 16 minutes left to play, Kashif Pratt BBMed me two words: "White flag." With Takyi stealing the ball as soon as Dunk got over half court, and Dodson still connecting from deep, the game should have been officially called (as the ref jokingly signified) after Taylor threw down an in-game dunk.
The rest of the game was basically people in the stands betting whether or not Dunk was going to break 20. And they didn't. I don't know, but if you ask me, there's only one explanation: The Curse of the Bobbito.
Final score: Huarache wins, 81-19. (Yes, you read that right.)
