Week 21 Recap: Uptempo vs. Hyperflight

Uptempo 0, Hyperflight 49

This was one of those games you were glad that you were playing and not just sitting in the stands as a spectator. In a semi David vs. Goliath type of game (based on the records at least), it was up to Hyperflight to set the tempo. And they did. To start the game, Hyperflight ran out to huge lead as their only five games moved the ball and played some tantalizing and inspired defense. Realizing that Uptempo normally kills teams from beyond the arc, playing a devastating 3-2 helped stop that.

But just like they always do, Uptempo dug in. Playing for his first game back, new nose and all, Mike Won made his presence felt. As I've mentioned over the past few weeks, in his absence, Uptempo had a hard time initiating the offense. And even with him back, it seemed like they still deferred to other guys bringing the ball up the floor. With Scott Williams and Nick Blatchford on the wings, and Danny Milan standing at the high-post, Won played cat-and-mouse games from short-corner to short-corner picking apart the zone. With only five guys to start, you could see that Hyperflight stunned Uptempo with their effort. But where there’s a will, there’s a way.

One thing Hyperflight was doing phenomenally was moving the ball. Uptempo was playing a matchup zone of their own, and they were finds the open spots to expose it. With three-point shooting from Niko Klansek and Lou Miguel, as well as Chad Gittens attacking the basket for the mid-range game (something he hasn't really done since the start of the season), Hyperflight was right there with him.

But even though the Thunder may get a lead on the Lakers, at the end of the day, the Lakers (a.k.a. Uptempo) just find ways to win - something that Hyperflight still needs to find out how to do. In the second half, lack of ball movement and stagnation on offense plagued them; and couple that with the inability to get some key stops, and you have yourself a ball game.
