Week 24 Recap: Air Force 1 vs. Foamposite

Air Force 1 52, Foamposite 55

Air Force 1’s attendance problems are well chronicled, and with three starters missing, it was only a late appearance from seldom-seen Dao-Yi that gave the team a precious fifth player. Their opponents, even missing Mike Tumbarello and Keith Howard, were deep – eight Foamosexuals were in the building. Despite the depleted rosters, this third meeting between the teams was a chance for Foam to exact a measure of revenge for two close losses AF1 had handed them earlier in the season.

Midway through the first half, the score was deadlocked at 12-12, with AF1 striking from the perimeter courtesy of Brandon Smith and Bobbito Garcia, while Foam, enjoying a rare size advantage, earned buckets in the paint from Dave Jacoby and Ron Jackson. In the last few minutes of the period, Foam pushed ahead to take a 10-point lead on mid-range shooting from Brian Bachelor, transition buckets from Do Kim and a timely three-pointer from Chris Petrie. Their success continued in the second half, as the Foamie-Lover-Friends raced to a 20-point lead. Using frequent substitutions from their bench, the men in maroon appeared the fresher squad.

With eight minutes remaining, Air Force 1 began cudgeling together a comeback. With Bobbito slicing into the lane at will, Smith raining in threes from a step inside mid-court and Lucian “Baby Stork Goonie” Dickson aggressively attacking the basket, the weary-but-undeterred team cut the lead down to nine points. Despite the late flurry, Justin Monroe and his Foam-cronies managed to drain enough free throws to prevent the game from becoming a nail-biter. As punctuation to their victory, Jacoby soared in for a monstrous three-handed windmill dunk over Ben Detrick (that may not have happened).

I like the fact that there are different voices for the recaps (probably b/c AP was MIA) but maybe GMs/players shouldn't recap their own games. With that said "FOAMOSEXUALS" was another classic line brought to us by Benzino Detrick, lol.
