Hyperflight 69, Dunk 56
With the playoffs just around the corner, with a super hot gym and a dragged out NRF season, Dunk and Hyperflight were warm from the minute they walked into that piece (the gym). The first game was cancelled. So from 7:20 to 8:00, both teams were warm (or in need of Panama Jack Aloe Vera after tanning lotion). Also, both teams barely had five guys nearing the tip-off.
In the first half, the game was neck and neck, and this is usually how it is when these two squads battle each other. Maybe Hyperflight was trying to win one for the old three-point contest vet Lou Miguel. Who will Bobbito Garcia face next year in the finals? Everyone comes out for that battle. One thing I do know, Rafael DaSilva was gunning for a W tonight. Raf went for a quiet 30 points, 3 assists, 3 steals, 6 boards and 2 blocks. As was iZ Mateo and the “Gazelle” Jed Berger. It felt like Izzy did not miss a shot in the first half. He ended up with 16 in the game, and it felt like he had 30. Well, Jed was typical Jed, diving for balls and going in for the hard fouls. On the flip side, he was getting fouled himself. In the second half, he had a Charles Oakley-esque put back. Jed ended up with 11 boards and 4 assists. I may need you next year on Dunk, Jed. You're that dude (pause).
Will “Nook” Dubose, who seems to be getting better and better as the weeks go by, stepped into the game at the 13-minute mark for Jason Tsai who had two or three nice open J’s and a nice lay-up. Nook was wide-open a few times under the boards for his crafty, yet buttery, reversal. Dubose ended up with 14 boards and 10 points himself.
As the air was still thinner than ever, the second half starts and in walks Niko Klansek. With Jay Corbin, Jed and now Niko, Dunk was in for a night on the glass. The only one keeping Dunk in the game on the boards was Reggie “Lap” Dance (12 boards). His hustle and flow would eventually get him kicked out of the game down the stretch for mouthing off to the refs. Niko would get crafty himself, with a few high post moves and a few “Iceman” finger rolls. A couple lazy Bobby Jones crossovers here and there, and that was the game. Down the stretch, Hyperflight iced it on the line. Raf fouled out near the end, and Dunk began to foul. Hyperflight hit the shots from the charity stripe and the game was a wrap.
Final score: Hyperflight wins, 69-57.
