Write-ups can fun sometimes, and other times not. Filling in for this years AP Loochan Dixon asked me to cover my own game for him. Things were a little odd as I entered the gym around 915ish. The game prior to ours (Delta vs Dunk) was cancelled. Kash kindly asked me if we can go early, which I was down with. As all of us win or lose wanted to get home to see what Melo did in his 1st game for the Knicks. With thoughts of Melo and Deron Williams on everyone’s mind, the game had to start somehow. No teams were warm and no lay-up lines were even happening. With little on the line other then pride,(Delta had wrapped up the 1 seed earlier that evening by default) Dunk and Delta both still wanted to play hard and send a message.
The 1st half seemed to go basket for basket or miss for miss. Neither of the squads were really setting the tempo. We had Will Blunt back for Dunk, he had to battle Erskine all game for position and board control. Dunk stared with its 3-2 zone, forcing Delta to find seams and settle for J’s. Coffey came through as usual with his 8 foot runners and Mike Won seemed to hit a few side J’s. Throw in a few hustle stats for Reggie Dance and Jed Berger (who looked like Death from the Guanlet). Jed almost fell asleep on the bench in the 2nd half (seems like everyone is sick these days). Score at halftime was 24-23 Delta.
2nd half more of the same, as Delta is getting more aggressive finding easier buckets. We have little or no energy going for us Dunk-a-roos and Delta is fueled by new role player/coach Smiley and Lenny Dixon. Delta pulled away to a 52-38 W. Highlight of the 2nd half was Raf’s running, scooping finger roll on 3 dudes in the paint, that seemed to go 10 feet in the air.
Delta seems in full stride hitting the playoffs and should be the favorite coming of their conference. Should be interesting how it all pans come playoff time. It’s one and out now.
